The Inflection Point

By Steph Jones

As I began to reflect on my feelings of uncertainty and fear as a woman of color in
America, I understood that this moment, like so many before, was not merely an ending
but a beginning. The inflection point I was experiencing was not just a personal crisis; it
was a clarion call for self-examination and growth. I was not alone in my
discouragement; many women of all races across the nation felt a similar weight. We
have historically been the backbone of our communities, yet moments of recognition
often slip away, leaving us questioning our value and impact.

What struck me most was the realization that our worth is not measured by accolades
or the permanence of our roles. Instead, our legacy is woven into the fabric of those we
inspire, support, and uplift. Change is cyclical, and while it may seem that others move
on without a glance back, each of us leaves an indelible mark, not only through our
work but through the relationships we build. The connections we forge with our
colleagues, mentees, and peers are what truly matter. They are the threads that hold
our experiences together, and they do not vanish when we do.

In the face of uncertainty, I have come to realize that my contributions have value,
regardless of how they are perceived in the grand tapestry of corporate life or even the
world. The inflection point before me is an opportunity to redefine my narrative. I can
choose to embrace the uncertainty of change and see it as a catalyst for personal
growth. Whether I remain in my current position or embark on a new venture, I hold the
power to shape my story. I can choose to mentor younger women, advocate for their
success, and build spaces where they feel seen and valued. This inflection point can
become a springboard for deeper connections and newfound purpose.

As I stand on the cusp of this transition, I am reminded that inflection points are not
solely about the decisions we make, but also about the decisions we inspire in others.
Each of us has the potential to ignite change and empower those around us. In
moments of uncertainty, we must remember the strength of our shared experiences and
the power of our collective voice.

As I navigate my own inflection point, I choose to embrace the journey ahead. I will
honor the legacy of those who came before me and forge my own path with intention
and courage. Whatever the future holds, I will carry with me the knowledge that my
impact extends beyond my immediate surroundings and that my purpose is continually
evolving. This is not just the end of one chapter; it is the start of many more to come.
Embracing this inflection point means recognizing that every ending paves the way for
new beginnings, and every step forward can lead to profound transformation.
